Intel Core i7 is a family of three Intel desktop x86-64 processors, the first processors released using the Intel Nehalem microarchitecture and the successor to the Intel Core 2 family. All three models are quad-core processors.[1] The Core i7 identifier applies to the initial family of processors[2][3] codenamed Bloomfield.[4] The moniker Core i7 may mean that this processor is the 7th installment of Intel desktop processors since the beginning of the Pentium series. Pentium D was sometimes referred to as Pentium 5 (5th installment) and the original Core Solo and Duo processors using the Front side bus technology were the 6th installment.
