Integrating AutoCAD with 3ds max
Although 3ds max has impressive modeling capability of its own, times might arise when you would like to coordinate model building with AutoCAD. This lesson will show us, how AutoCAD can significantly increase the model building capability of 3ds max.
AutoCAD is a sister product to max, aimed at the Computer-Aided Drafting and Designing market. It was produced by the same parent company and for that reason interacts very well with max.
If you are comfortable with AutoCAD and familiar with atleast its 2D commands, it is likely that useful information already exists for the model on which you are working, in the form of 2D drawings. We can import part of 2D drawings created in AutoCAD and then convert it into 3D model in max.
Using AutoCAD drawing file in 3ds Max requires following two steps.
- Preparing AutoCAD drawing for export, so that useful information is available in the drawing.
- Selecting suitable options, during import of AutoCAD drawing file in max.
