Critic’s Choice Awards 2009: and the winners are?



We have now completed our first week of 2009 and the awards have already started. The 2009 Critic’s Choice Awards was a chance for the stars to get dressed up, and it was a star-studding event at the 14th Annual Broadcast Film Critics’ Association’s Critic’s Choice Awards. The awards ceremony took place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on January 8. So who were the winners?

There were some shocks on the night as well as something that we all expected. The big winners on the night included Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep who tied for Best Actress. Sean Penn won Best Actor, and the Best Picture went to “Slumdog Millonaire.”

The best news of the night and which was totally disserved was the late heath Ledger winning Best Supporting Actor, for his portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight. This award caused some emotion for his friends and fellow actors on the night.

  • Best Actress: Meryl Streep, “Doubt” & Anne Hathaway, “Rachel Getting Married” (tie)
  • Best Animated Film: “WALL-E”
  • Best Comedy Movie: “Tropic Thunder”
  • Best Composer: A.R. Rahman, “Slumdog Millionaire”
  • Best Director: Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire”
  • Best Documentary: “Man On Wire”
  • Best Foreign Language Film: “Waltz With Bashir”
  • Best Picture: “Slumdog Millionaire”
  • Best Song: “The Wrestler,” by Bruce Springsteen (”The Wrestler”)
  • Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”
  • Best Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet, “The Reader”
  • Best Writer: Simon Beaufoy, “Slumdog Millionaire”
  • Best Young Actor/Actress: Dev Patel, “Slumdog Millionaire”
